Alan
Kennedy My name is Alan Kennedy. I am 32 years old and live
in Dublin, Ireland.
Usually, I make my living as an IT
consultant. However,
I've worked on nothing but
Mycobacterium paratuberculosis
and Crohn's disease
for the last three
years, since I consider it to be a
subject of immense
importance.
I am not a doctor.
I have no medical qualifications,
other than 20 years
of living with Crohn's disease.
I have a computer science
degree, and have worked as
a contract consultant
for the last 12 years, working
mostly in the finance
industry. Most often, I work on
systems involving
large relational databases.
I have from Crohn's
disease, and have had it for the
last 21 years, since
age 11. I have had resection
surgery twice. I have
been on corticosteroids for long
periods of time, in
the past. I have experienced lengthy
periods of my life
where the disease degraded both my
quality of life and
my self esteem. However, having
had conversations
with other Crohn's sufferers through
the medium of the
Internet, I consider myself lucky to
have gotten away so
lightly.
